Candle wax is melted in a provided container using the microwave. Super easy. A 9 year old and 12 year old did it all by themselves.Cute, complete candle making kit for beginner. Depending on age will need help from adult. Good test to see if they are truly interested in this hobby. Fair price. Delivered on timeGot this kit for my daughter's 13th birthday. She made her first candle the next day and really liked it. She even shared it with her friend and little sister, showing them both how to make them. Plan to buy another one.We purchased this set for our daughters 11th birthday party. It was one of the only sets that I could find that came with six of everything (minus the mixing/melting cup that you can buy extra of for $2 each at Walmart). We had it all setup in little bags for them. The girls had a blast making their own candles and they turned out great! It would be nice if the colorant came precut in 1/4 cubes instead or the larger amount that you have to cut up yourself. That would have made it easier for the girls, but definitely won't stop us from buying another set. It was the highlight of the party! This is a nice set for beginners. Does not include a thermometer which is important for timing in adding dyes, scents, and pouring. I added dye at 180, scent at 150 and poured at 125 degrees. It worked well, no tunneling, bubbling or imperfections. My 13 year old granddaughter is enjoying making her own candles. I like that they are soy.But it was fun and enjoyable to use the only problem I had was using the microwave make sure you only put the cup in for 30 seconds at a time I put it in for a minute and blew up my microwaveI love everything I just received it and already made a candle I’m letting it sit to dry looks good not bad kit and everything was packaged just right and nothing was missing I am very happy with my purchaseTime:Having spent all afternoon making 3 of the candles in this kit I thought I would do a quick review. It took hours because the jug you get for melting the wax fits one of the 140g/4.8oz bags of wax which makes one candle. Then you have to wipe it out and re-melt & colour, then fragrance the next lot.Once you pour it takes a long time to cool. Your candles need about 45mins each to cool enough to move to a shelf. (They need to sit for a few days to cure before use). So you might need to prepare space before you start.Method:It was easy enough to use and at first the kit seemed to include everything. However it relies on using a microwave for melting the soy wax (enough for one candle at a time) and doesn't include a thermometer. There's no mention about what temperature is best for properly incorporating the fragrance (something I've since found out is important). That's not an issue if you are just trying out candle making and are keeping them for yourself. But if giving as gifts you want your candle to smell as incredible as possible. You microwave the bag of soy wax and some colour in the jug for a bit. The soy wax melts easily. The colour does not. I recommend cutting the colour into as many tiny flakes as you can. When melting you need to stop and stir a lot. The colour seemed not to melt at all at first. But once the rest of the wax was fully melted and the colour stirred loads it eventually began to slowly colour the wax. To fully melt took an extra 30 seconds in the microwave and one minute of stirring.Look:The candles look fantastic, the tins are gorgeous. They come with very professional looking cork base mats and warning stickers. The kit gives you six different blocks of colour. The instructions tell you to add 1/2 block for a deep colour. I added half to the first one but it seemed quite strong, I added a quarter to the next and none to the third. I'll add pictures to show this once they have cooled and lightened.Scent:The scents included in this kit are incredible. They seem to smell amazing so far. Once cured, I'll try to remember to update. I hope they were mixed in enough at the right temperature. Again though, you are just guessing what that might be. The instructions don't really describe what the wax looks like at the right temperature either. This would have been helpful since they are not including a thermometer.Waste:Once you've used the kit to make the six candles you are all out of soy wax, warning stickers, base mats, candle tins and fragrance. Yet, you have several wicks left over, some wick stickers (but not enough to match with all the wicks), some popsicle sticks and a lot of the wax block colouring. To use that up you'll need to order more wax, more containers and more fragrances at the very least.I did enjoy this and look forward to doing the next three on a bigger table and with the help of a thermometer. If you are looking to have a fun afternoon activity I do recommend this kit despite its shortfalls. However if you are looking to make a batch for a wedding or to use as Christmas gifts, definitely invest in a larger metal melting container. Melting one candle worth at a time took way too long and way too much stirring. It would also have been helpful to know the exact amount of fragrance needed for each candle as "about half" of one of their fragrances isn't that easy to judge as you hold it upside down dripping whole you continuously stir it into hot wax. Some way of measuring it would be better.this was bought as a presentrecipient was very happyOk,very easy to use.Stunning set, includes everything you could need and a lovely attention to detail. My niece was absolutely delightedHad fun. Superglued a ballerina and a chimchar charazard looking poke on thing on my candles.
